The Legend of Dragoon. A video game that has held my attention from the first time I got to try it out at the Toys “R” Us store as a child. Over time I learned about various flaws with the game. The poor translation in several languages. Sexism. Plenty of stereotyping and tropes. For better or worse, the game is often remarked as a staple of the “JRPG” classification. Even after having multiple jobs in the gaming industry and looking at LoD through that lens I still love it; though not as blindly.
My blogs about this game will most likely be a balanced mixture of my musings about the game, personal gameplay experiences, and my efforts in rebuilding the now-fragmented ghost town of a generally populated community. In fact, I had already drafted another blog entry stating my personal thoughts and observations following the recent 18-year anniversary of LoD’s original release in Japan. I can see myself talking about general playthroughs, working through imperfections with a PS1 emulator while playing LoD or seeing what community projects I come up with.
I thought about including my full background with The Legend of Dragoon, but I think I should save that for a dedicated blog post – which will be quite thorough. Suffice it to say, this game has left a lasting impact on me when it comes to video gaming. I have a feeling that my entries in the Legend of Dragoon blog category of this website will attract fans from around the world. Plus, after looking for other blogs about the game I’ve found far less results than I imagined would exist by now. I hope that by doing this, I might inspire people – be that in the form of a single blog entry, more community interaction on social media, or just giving somebody a light boost to their day.
