Shows

A list of shows I’m into! Over time I’ll fill out summaries for each.

Outer Space Astronauts

This sci-fi comedy was released in 2009, a few years after I finished high school. It wasn’t the best show out there, but it didn’t need to be and it knew not to take itself too seriously. It’s a down-to-earth-yet-zany take on work life aboard the OSS Oklahoma. The show got poor critical reception, unfortunately, but it’s hard to deny that this show is a gem in my opinion. Just the use of real-life heads in animated scenes is a creative novelty. I think showrunners don’t venture into this kind of territory often enough.

As of March 2023 I have opened a new project for this show. My plan is to give it a resource archive, erect a one-page shrine, and locate old fans to see if they’ll unify a bit under one roof to celebrate the show and check out the extra info they never knew before.

1899

A strange, captiovating period piece with a final-scene reveal that made me a thousand times more interested.

Battlestar Galactica

In a time where humans have colonized many planets and have space fleets, one of their creations – sentient machines called Cylons – turn on them and disappear. Later, they come back, and it all goes to shit. Hardly any humans escape the sudden attack.

Better Off Ted

Taking real-world issues and dialing them up to 11/10 with a tinge of zany. Now more prescient than ever.

The Dresden Files

Apparently this show is bad compared to the books. Therefore, I’m a little sorry that I enjoy most of it. Starring Paul Blackthorne, who with this hair and voice is one of my top fictional hotties.

Heroes

An amazing show for its time. Well, if we’re talking about the first season. Suffered greatly from the writers’ strike, and should not have gone past two seasons. There was a revival effort called Heroes Reborn, which to me is no better than seasons 3 and 4.

John Doe

Generic white dude loses his memory of who he is, but somehow knows all kinds of facts like a walking encyclopedia. Uses his knowledge and curiosity to learn more about himself in-between helping local law enforcement solve cases. Has the rare property of the main character being colorblind. The star, Dominic Purcell, is one of my hotties with this look and voice. At least it got more episodes than Dresden Files!

Stargate Universe

Great concept with people getting stranded on an ancient spaceship. Better if you’re a huge fan of the SG-1 series before it, and maybe SG Atlantis as well. Sadly the show suffered from things like taking too long to “get somewhere interesting”, copying Battlestar Galactica too hard, and too many interpersonal conflicts / sex scenes. Picked up in Season 2 a bit, but IMO the nail in the coffin was copying BSG again with aliens and drones chasing down the crew. Still, SGU was a treasure of a concept that deserved better treatment so it could flourish. And, naturally, it had the impossible task of following in SG-1’s footsteps (just like Atlantis).
