Yesterday, October 3rd, is a special day for me. It’s a day when I made a really difficult choice to start living my own life back in 2015. It’s been nine years since I made that decision, remarkably. I’m almost 36 now.. no pressure on the aging front right? Right, but there is indeed pressure on the productivity front. Not even in the day-to-day, that’s going well lately. I’m moreso referring to my long-term ambitions and “career” for lack of a better word.

I was so sure that within a few years I would have my own development studio. I thought I would have been further along with that, and other things, by now. Like I’ve made little headway.. but it’s not entirely true. I’ve made plenty of strides in other ways – most notably curating the Legend of Dragoon fandom. A few people reached out to me recently to tell me how much my work in that realm impacted them in this or that way; it reminded me that I have definitely come a long way. Not quite in the way I expected or planned, but I figure that’s the case for most folks.

I do still hope to zero-in on specific things I want to do, big and small, so I’ve been setting renewed intentions with a few vision boards and new writings. One such writing is a book. Not your typical (non-)fiction work, rather a chronicling of my journey in the LoD fandom from 2000 to now. It’s my story, and it’s also the story of the LoD community. I think it’ll be a great read for fans far and wide. Hopefully when the book is published it’ll inspire others to write about the stories of other fandoms – even if it’s a small segment of their history. I started earlier this year and dropped the ball – now I’m picking it back up.

There’s also the matter of continued work on my personal wellness. On the physical front, I’m several weeks into some DDR-esque workouts. I never managed to find interest in official DDR games because their music sets were just too far outside my usual tastes. However, it dawned on me that I could try making the dance pad I bought earlier this year work with FlashFlashRevolution.

FFR is like DDR, but it’s a computer game meant to be played with arrow keys. I used a button-remapping software called Joy2Key, and it worked! I was playing my favorite songs on FFR, using my dance pad!! Well, not to the same skill level because dancing demands more average skill than arrow keys. I could still play a few of my favorites, however, and it also gave me new appreciation for the easy tracks I used to skip over in my FFR prime (2006-2010, roughly). There are tons of songs to explore, and I’ve already favorited several tracks I never heard before. I’m thoroughly glad to be a tinkerer. Whew!

There’s more to say, but I’ve gotta get back on task. Currently putting together some LoD fan music for our next community collab on Youtube, and then I need to catch up on some work I owe Monoxide for a video related to Severed Chains. Oh, and writing that book. Take care!
